In 1926, Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Wallace Thurman, Aaron Douglas, Richard Bruce Nugent, Gwendolyn Bennett and John P. Davis created FIRE!! Those legends, just young artists then, said they wanted to "express" themselves "freely and independently–without interference from old heads, white or Negro." So they created a magazine, one that's now considered one of the most important publications of the Harlem Renaissance.
Times have changed but the need for such a space persists. F!RE magazine is an attempt to fill that void while honoring the legacy of FIRE!!.
F!RE will be the destination for lifestyle, news, social and cultural content – and a showcase for sound, engaging journalism, literature and art. F!RE is intelligent, irreverent and openly black. F!RE is set to be the premier multi-media platform for the most influential young, black readers. This discerning audience is driven by style, music, art and social causes. F!RE is on track to reach these trendsetters through its authentic perspective and carefully-curated aesthetic, amplified by unparalleled social reach.
